A Jessie J music as soon as assured vocal pyrotechnics on the dimensions of the Disneyland fireworks extravaganza. That’s principally nonetheless true on Don’t Tease Me With a Good Time, however the British singer’s first album in eight years—which balances R&B jams with misty Eighties pop—does extra with much less. On lead single “No Secrets,” Jessie J turns in one among her most restrained performances as she wrestles with life within the public eye. “I am standing right here bare/However I selected the highlight,” she croons. “Typically I hate it, generally it feels good.”

    Plosivs: Yell at Cloud [Swami]

In 2022, the San Diego punk-rock supergroup of Pinback’s Rob Crow, Rocket From the Crypt’s John Reis and Atom Willard, and Mrs. Magician’s Jordan Clark launched a debut album as Plosivs. By that point, the band had already began work on its follow-up, albeit in lower than preferrred circumstances. Already hemmed in at a Winnipeg studio on account of COVID-19 lockdowns, the band was stranded by an enormous Arctic storm and compelled to work by candlelight in under freezing circumstances. (To cite the label copy, “Think about a band making an attempt making a file in John Carpenter’s The Factor.”) However file the group did, finally overcoming the darkish interval of the album’s creation to finish the claustrophobic recordings and launch them, as Yell at Cloud, on Reis’ stalwart label Swami.
