King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Respond to Spotify Impersonator: “We Are Truly Doomed”

A sequence of uncredited King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard covers have been faraway from Spotify after gaining traction via the platform’s algorithms and suggestion engines, Futurism reports. Apparently generated by synthetic intelligence, the songs had been uploaded to an artist web page referred to as King Lizard Wizard and appeared in customers’ Launch Radars earlier than the platform took motion. King Gizzard frontperson Stu Mackenzie mentioned in a press release to the Music that he was “making an attempt to see the irony on this state of affairs.” He added, “However significantly wtf we’re really doomed.”

Quick access to AI music mills has compounded the inflow of AI slop—or AI “deepfakes”—to streaming platforms this 12 months. The King Gizzard rip-offs are significantly craven: This 12 months, the band grew to become the highest-profile up to now to pull its music from Spotify in protest of Daniel Ek’s navy investments.

Spotify mentioned in a press release to Digital Music Information, “Spotify strictly prohibits any type of artist impersonation. The content material in query was eliminated for violating our platform insurance policies, and no royalties had been paid out for any streams generated.”

Pitchfork has emailed a consultant for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard for additional remark.
