    A Joyous Homecoming – The Listeners’ Club

    At the same time as Stalin’s purges intensified, a homesick Sergei Prokofiev returned completely to the USSR in 1936. In 1918, he fled Russia, residing in the USA after which in Paris. He was lured again with guarantees of inventive freedom and the flexibility to journey overseas, each of which in the end had been restricted by Soviet authorities.

    Composed in 1936, and premiered the identical 12 months by conductor Eugen Szenkar and the Moscow State Philharmonic, Russian Overture, Op. 72 is the music of joyous homecoming. Prokofiev’s biographer, Simon Morrison, writes that the Overture “contains motives derived from Russian people dance, salon tune and liturgical chant.”

    It’s larger-than-life music, brimming with exuberant exercise and shimmering orchestral colours. Within the remaining moments, the Overture’s themes come collectively in an impressive chorale, concluding with the final word musical fireworks.

    About Timothy Judd

    A local of Upstate New York, Timothy Judd has been a member of the Richmond Symphony violin part since 2001. He’s a graduate of the Eastman College of Music the place he earned the levels Bachelor of Music and Grasp of Music, finding out with world famend Ukrainian-American violinist Oleh Krysa.

    The son of public faculty music educators, Timothy Judd started violin classes on the age of 4 via Eastman’s Neighborhood Training Division. He was a pupil of Anastasia Jempelis, one of many earliest champions of the Suzuki technique in the USA.

    A passionate instructor, Mr. Judd has maintained a personal violin studio within the Richmond space since 2002 and has been lively teaching chamber music and quite a few youth orchestra sectionals.

    In his free time, Timothy Judd enjoys understanding with Richmond’s well-liked SEAL Workforce Bodily Coaching program.
