In 2025, Kim Gordon reworked her single “Bye Bye” into an indictment towards the Trump administration. Now she’s again with a brand new solo album that equally takes goal at politicians and the billionaire class; Play Me is out March 13 through Matador. Musically, Gordon is much less steely than ordinary on its lead single, “Not Today,” by which she breaks out her singing voice for the primary time in years. Take a look at that monitor together with its music video beneath.

Rodarte founders Kate and Laura Mulleavy directed the “Not In the present day” clip and pulled out a custom-made tulle costume that they designed for Gordon years again, bringing out each her edge and femininity. Within the video, Gordon shoots hoops, dances freely, and swings her guitar round in circles, mirroring her surprising freedom within the recording studio. “I began singing in a manner I hadn’t sung in a very long time,” stated Gordon. “This different voice got here out.”

Play Me is Gordon’s third solo album, following 2024’s The Collective, and consists of one visitor characteristic: Dave Grohl drumming on “Busy Bee.” Gordon has a renewed creativity throughout the LP that she partially credit to reuniting with producer Justin Raisen. “We wished the songs to be quick,” stated Gordon. “We wished to do it actually quick. It’s extra targeted, and possibly extra assured. I at all times form of work off of rhythms, and I knew I wished it to be much more beat-oriented than the final one. Justin actually will get my voice and my lyrics and he understands how I work—that got here forth much more on this report.”

Examine The Collective at No. 10 on “The 50 Best Albums of 2024.”
