    The Girls’s Musical Membership Of Toronto (WMCT) has named Amy Hillis as the brand new Inventive Director of Music within the Afternoon, the group’s longstanding signature live performance collection. Hillis will start curating the programming for the 2026-26 season.

    Amy will take over from Simon Fryer, who has held the place since 2006.

    “We’re thrilled to welcome Amy Hillis as our new Inventive Director,” mentioned Janet Murray, President of the WMCT. “Amy is a dynamic artist and a visionary thinker with a ardour for chamber music and a robust connection to rising Canadian expertise. Her expertise as a performer and her modern method to programming are a perfect match for the WMCT’s mission as we method our one hundred and thirtieth anniversary.”

    Amy Hillis

    Amy Hillis is a violinist, educator, and advocate for Canadian music. Amy is a local of Regina, Saskatchewan. She earned her Bachelor of Music at McGill College, adopted by a Grasp’s diploma on the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Gillis returned to McGill to finish her Physician of Music in Violin Efficiency.

    Her expertise has been acknowledged with a primary prize on the Eckhardt-Gramatté Nationwide Music Competitors, in addition to an inventive residency at La Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, a win on the McGill Concerto Competitors, and the Sylva Gelber Basis Music Award.

    She has carried out throughout Canada, and commissioned a number of new works from composers corresponding to Matthew Brubeck, Fjóla Evans, Vincent Ho, Andrew Staniland, Jocelyn Morlock, and Nicole Lizée, amongst others.

    Amy is presently Assistant Professor of Group Music at York College’s College of Arts, Media, Efficiency and Design.
