Bangarra Dance Theatre is delighted to announce their new dedicated work for children, The Bogong’s Song: a call to Country. What guides you through the darkness when you’ve lost your way? A whisper on the wind. A shimmer in the stars. A moth in flight.

As a brother and sister switch off the lights for bedtime, their Nan begins a mesmerizing tale. Her voice, like the fluttering wings of the Bogong moth, guides them into a dreamlike world where Country reveals its ancient secrets. Here, stars, trees, and grasses whisper stories of the past, and healing emerges in the quiet moments between breaths.

The Bogong’s Song: A Call to Country is a captivating fusion of storytelling, shadow puppetry, dance, and song, crafted for primary-aged children. Through Nan’s sharing of ancestral wisdom, audiences are invited to forge a deep connection with Country. As the children embrace their heritage, they learn that even the tiniest creatures, like the Bogong moth, play a vital role in the world.

From the creators of the acclaimed Waru – Journey of the Small Turtle, which enchanted over 25,000 young audiences last year, this new work by Yolande Brown and Chenoa Deemal shines with warmth and wonder. Featuring the dynamic talents of Benjin Maza and Tjilala Brown-Roberts in dance, music, and spoken word, The Bogong’s Song invites young hearts to listen, reflect, and marvel at the beauty of Country and its stories.

The Bogong’s Song is recommended for children aged 7 to 12 years, and will premiere this September as part of Brisbane Festival before flying over to Sydney for a season at Bangarra’s Studio Theatre in Walsh Bay in October.
