    Drake to Appeal “Not Like Us” Lawsuit Ruling

    Drake is hoping to revive his lawsuit in opposition to Universal Music Group (UMG) {that a} federal choose threw out earlier this month. The musician and his authorized crew filed a discover of enchantment at the moment (October 29) in a New York federal court docket.

    When reached by Pitchfork, a spokesperson for Drake mentioned, “This confirms our intent to enchantment, and we stay up for the Courtroom of Appeals reviewing that submitting within the coming weeks.” Representatives for Common Music Group didn’t instantly reply to Pitchfork’s request for remark.

    Drake filed his lawsuit against UMG in January, alleging that the music company “waged an unrelenting marketing campaign” to advertise “Not Like Us,” Kendrick Lamar’s well-known diss music that he believed to be defamatory. UMG had requested for the criticism’s dismissal, arguing that Drake “misplaced a rap battle that he provoked and during which he willingly participated.”

    Decide Jeannette A. Vargas ostensibly agreed with UMG, ruling that “the broader context of a heated rap battle, with incendiary language and offensive accusations hurled by each individuals, wouldn’t incline the affordable listener to consider that ‘Not Like Us’ imparts verifiable information.”
