Lower than a 12 months after dropping their acclaimed October 2024 album Coma, masked Portuguese black steel collective Gaerea have stunned followers with a brand-new single, “Submerged”. The monitor arrives with out the fanfare of a brand new album announcement — but it surely does observe the band’s reveal of their summer time trek, ominously titled the Su8m3r91ng Summer time Tour, hinting that one thing contemporary was lurking beneath the floor.

Apparently, “Submerged” strays into sudden territory for the group. Whereas Gaerea‘s signature atmospheric black steel stays intact in locations, the track leans closely into metalcore-inspired rhythmsatmospheres, making a hybrid that may catch longtime listeners off guard. It is a daring, trendy twist for a band recognized extra for sprawling, emotional extremity than tight, groove-driven aggression.

Whether or not this can be a one-off experiment or a preview of a broader stylistic shift stays to be seen — however one factor’s sure: Gaerea aren’t afraid to shake issues up, even whereas using the momentum of Coma.

You can too catch Gaerea on tour with Orbit Tradition and Atlas this October via November. Get your tickets here.
