After I heard “Les Jeux to You,” photos from Fando y Lis, a movie that has at all times haunted me, flooded my thoughts and I knew we needed to reimagine it. Set in a dystopian future previous, the 2 lovers escape to a legendary metropolis and alongside the way in which are confronted with each terrifying figures of the unconscious and joyful reminiscences of the previous that speed up a descent into insanity. As a feminine artist, I felt the necessity to discover the anima of this fable and reinscribe the imagery as a mode of empowerment of the female directorial gaze.
I knew it could be a problem as a result of it’s a controversial movie, but it surely was notably unsettling to learn the current allegations in opposition to its director Alejandro Jodorowsky shortly after we made the video. It made me suppose extra concerning the challenge and in the end bolstered my unique intention of reframing the work as a fancy and nuanced tackle the psychology of self-destructive relationships.
There’s a mysterious essence to this story, a type of psycho-spiritual unravelling that I hook up with the surrealist poetry of Julia’s lyrics and music.
