Moby has tiptoed into the studio for a brand new, largely ambient album, Future Quiet. Out February 20, the follow-up to his equally minimalist Ambient 23 takes cues from Cocteau Twins and This Mortal Coil, the producer says. Main the report is a rework of his 1995 track “When It’s Chilly I’d Wish to Die” that includes Gabriels’ Jacob Lusk. Hearken to that under, and scroll down for the album artwork and tracklist.
That track, initially sung by Mimi Goese on Moby’s All the things Is Unsuitable, has had a streaming resurgence since its sync within the first season of Stranger Things (and reprisal in season 4). Of its new vocalist, Moby says, “Like anybody who’s heard Jacob sing, I instantly fell in love together with his voice. After listening to him sing on the radio, I spent weeks monitoring him down and begging him to work with me. And, fortunate me, he agreed. The outcomes converse for themselves, as his vocals on ‘When It’s Chilly I’d Wish to Die’ are, I say with one thing approaching objectivity, transcendent.”
Moby elaborates on the album’s influences in a press launch:
The largely instrumental LP contains a handful extra visitor vocalists, particularly Serpentwithfeet, Elise Serenelle, and India Carney. BMG is releasing the report, which Moby will again with a serious tour, quickly to be introduced.
