Excessive steel label Transcending Obscurity has kicked off the 12 months in signature trend with the discharge of its 2026 Label Sampler, a free-for-download compilation showcasing brand-new materials from throughout its roster. As with earlier samplers, all proceeds raised will go immediately towards supporting the label’s independently run animal sanctuary, presently dwelling to greater than 40 rescued cats and canines.
The art work, created by Nekromold, displays what the label describes as “messy instances,” confronting the rising presence of AI in artwork and music. The design incorporates grim, dystopian components with a heavy Warhammer 40K affect, visually matching the sampler’s excessive and forward-thinking sound.
All 26 tracks on the sampler are beforehand unreleased, spanning black steel, dying steel, doom, sludge, thrash, and avant-garde hybrids from bands throughout North America, Europe, and past. Label founder Kunal Choksi explains that the sampler stays a core custom for Transcending Obscurity, mixing musical discovery with a significant trigger. Whereas the compilation is free to obtain, followers are inspired to contribute, serving to fund meals, care, and enrichment for the rescued animals — with hopes of including new toys and even a treehouse.
